NEW YORK – A worldwide study on women entrepreneurs is presently being conducted by Dr. Andrea Smith-Hunter, an Associate Professor at Siena College in New York.

Dr. Smith-Hunter is studying the impact that female entrepreneurs have in seven regions of the world; Africa, South America, North America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Europe and Asia.

The regions left to be completed are the Caribbean, Europe, Eastern Europe and Asia.

“I truly believe that women hold the key to the economic power of our future and so this project is to gather more data to establish that view. It has been an interesting process to discover the impact that women with small micro-enterprises are having on their community and even their nation,” said Smith-Hunter.

The questionnaire will take no more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Women can either choose to download the form and return it by mail or fax or fill in the form electronically and email it back to the researcher.

Dr. Smith-Hunter who is originally from Jamaica, holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Studies from the University at Albany – State University of New York. Her research interests include entrepreneurship across racial, ethnic, gender and economic lines. She has been published in the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship, the Journal of International Business and Entrepreneurship, Women in Management Review and the Journal of Business and Economic Research, among others. Her first book, Diversity and Entrepreneurship: Analyzing Successful Women Entrepreneurs, was published in 2003 by University Press of America. Her second book, Women Entrepreneurship Across Racial Lines: Issues of Human Capital, Financial Capital and Network Structures, was published in 2006 by Edward Elgar Publishing.

Coordinating the project for Dr. Smith-Hunter is Nerissa Golden, the founder of YES, the Young Entrepreneurs Symposiums in the Caribbean. “This research will be a vital tool than can enable governments to understand the value of their female population and the impact they are already having and act accordingly to support them. It should also inspire not just women but men as well to consider starting their own businesses and follow the path that many have chosen and continue to navigate successfully,” Golden said. The entrepreneur is presently completing work on her second book “The Making of a Caribbeanpreneur: Overcoming Fears and Building Wealth.”

More information about the research can be obtained by contacting Nerissa Golden at info@trulycaribbean.net to participate in the survey.

By: Nerissa Golden

About the Author:

Copyright (c) 2008 Mark Albertson

Each year, nearly one million Americans start their own businesses, undertaking the transition from Employee to Self-Employed.

We have all heard that most businesses fail in the first five years. But an in-depth study in 1993 by the New Jersey Institute of Technology suggests those figures may be a myth. They found that no more than 18% of new companies fail during the first 8 years of business. 54% survive more than 8 years with their original owners or a change in ownership, and the 28% of the remaining businesses voluntarily terminate operations without losses to creditors.

While many of those million people will give up, go bankrupt and go back to the employee life the statistics confirm that most of those people will find new satisfaction, a good living, and a path of pursuing their heart’s desire. This will be our focus today on Minding Your Business: How to start a business the right way, and if you’re already running a business, how to take that business to the next level.

Before you ever decide what business to operate, your first step is to honestly assess whether or not you have the traits to own your own business. There are some key characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. While every successful entrepreneur does not possess all of these traits, these do tend to be the traits shared by the successful.

Trait #1: The Need to Achieve

The need to achieve is an internal force that demands that you accomplish things in your life. Don’t confuse this with the need to exercise power or the need to be liked or the desire to earn a lot of money.

Trait #2: Perserverence

Perserverence is the ability to “hang in there” and not give up. This includes the ability to follow through on commitments.

Trait #3: Positive Mental Attitude

Optimistic attitudes create positive outcomes. No one denies the mysterious connection between how you think and what happens as truth. You attract to yourself what you think about. Consequently, you must be able to think positively to make yourself successful.

Trait #4: Objectivity

This is the ability to accurately assess risks with decisions to be made and also not allowing your ego to dictate your course of action

Trait #5: Foresight

This is the ability to anticipate changes that are needed before the problem arises

Trait #6:Good interpersonal skills

Business owners are politicians, and the best business owners get along well with other people.

Trait #7: A thick skin

Many hard decisions have to be made. The successful entrepreneur has to be able to withstand criticism. Everybody is always second-guessing your decisions. It’s amazing how many “arm chair” entrepreneurs are out there who have never run their own business, yet would love nothing better than to tell you how to run yours.

Trait #8: Strong communications skills

The ability to write well and speak well is very important to success. That being said, you can “hire” written communication (as in copy writing). You have to be able to communicate well to contractors, employees and others involved in providing for you.

Trait #9: Resourcefulness

Resourcefulness is the ability to solve unique problems in creative ways in which you have no experience. It’s a wild card. Think of it as the “MacGyver” factor. Can you solve problems using simple household items? If so, you’re resourceful.

Trait #10: Technical knowledge

You have to know what you are doing, or at least be able to learn. Successful entrepreneurs soak up knowledge like a sponge. Especially in the internet business, there is plenty to learn. If you think you can just put up a website and sit back and wait for your millions, you still have some learning to do.

Trait #12: A respectful attitude towards money

Money can’t be seen as an end in itself, but as a means for making things happen and accomplishing goals.

So, with all that in mind, it’s time for you to sit down and accurately assess your strengths and weaknesses. If there is an area above that you lack, what will you do to overcome that weakness?

By: Mark Albertson

About the Author:

So do you feel you have the Entrepreneurial Spirt or is it the Wanna-Be mind set? Whether you are trying to decide on EDCGold or Roadmap to Riches, at some point you will have to ask yourself this question. I have listed 12 major differences between the dreamers and the doer’s, however, you probably will come up with a few of your own in the process of reading this article.

1. Wanna-be’s obsess about ideas. Entrepreneurs, I like to call them, “E’s”, obsess about implementation. Don’t get stuck in Analysis Paralysis, when deciding on the best home based business for you. Look at what the top income producers are doing and copy them. There is no need what so ever to re-invent the wheel.

2. Wanna-be’s want or hope for more web traffic. E’s focus on how best to get that traffic and high sale conversion. Nobody want to be a sales person so you’ll want a system that will have a paint by number training system in place for yourself as well as for your new members, giving you the ability to earn ridiculous amounts of residual income. To my knowledge, EDCGold and Roadmap to Riches, both decent companies, don’t have a comp plan in place for residual or passive income.

3. Wanna-be’s focus on positive thinking. E’s plan for multiple contingencies. Positive thinking is important but truly it’s more about “changing your mind”, not only thinking about things in a positive light. In short, change your mind, empower yourself and combine this with research, education and targeted action, and in no time, you are bringing home a 6 to 7 figure income.

4. Wanna-be’s want to get on TV and get “famous.” E’s grow their business and their member list. Let the ego go. Your only goal is to make as much money as possible and to empower people along the way to do the same as quickly as possible, not become the next, “I Love New York” star.

5. Wanna-be’s seek a perfect plan and wait for the perfect time. E’s implement, execute and take action when an opportunity arises. Entrepreneurs, or “E’s, accept educated risk and are able to make big decisions quickly once they have all the information. Ezine Articles are a good place to obtain such information, and that would be by doing an search for EDCGold Review and the Roadmap to Riches Review

6. Wanna-be’s wait for their lucky break. E’s take responsibility and create their OWN circumstances.

7. Wanna-be’s fear looking stupid in front of their friends. E’s are willingly risk making fools of themselves, knowing that long-term success is a good trade for short-term loss of image. Surround yourself with people who have proven results and copy what they do.

8. Wanna-be’s hide their special ideas from reality, postponing the sometimes verdict of success or failure, in favor of “someday”.’ E’s expose their ideas to cold reality as soon as reasonably possible.

9. Wanna-be’s will only practice basketball if they have Air Jordan’s. Entrepreneurs, or E’s practice barefoot behind the garage. Stop waiting for the perfect time, the perfect opportunity, the perfect situation. This is your life, do the research, take decisive action now and stop procrastinating.

10. Wanna-be’s would be O.K with giving up their first two sales like a new member must at EDCGold and Roadmap to Riches. E’s wouldn’t have to because they would have done their homework and found programs that let you keep all of your sales.

11. Wanna-be’s believe they can do anything. E’s many times consult with a synergistic team and use systems and technology to solve the variables that most people struggle with.

12. Wanna-be’s think about the world in terms of COULD and SHOULD. E’s think in terms of IS and CAN BE.

In conclusion here, I would just like to say whether you are investigating EDCGold, Roadmap to Riches or any of the other 1-up or 2-up programs online, you must, at some point make the choice to become an Entrepreneur or a Wanna Be? It is quite simple, change your mind and change your financial future. The world is yours if you really take to heart, these 12 differences. Figure out where you are, where you want to be, how much you want to make and don’t settle for less!

By: Holli Diel

About the Author:

Supporting entrepreneurial women is my passion. With that in mind I wrote this article for female/women entrepreneurs only, so I could focus and celebrate the feminine way of doing business. I’m eager to share with you communities that support doing business in a feminine way.

This is an important subject since women are starting businesses at nearly 3 times the rate of men. Currently there are 11million women owned businesses in the US. What’s motivating women to start their own businesses? According to a survey by Ladies Who Launch, women launch a new business for the following reasons:

To have more FREEDOM and CONTROL over their schedules and LIVES. To pursue their PASSION and DREAMS. To create REVENUE and MAKE MONEY doing what they love.

The specific motives are unique to every woman yet they reflect a pattern. Women want their business to fit in with the rest of their priorities and values in life.

The Feminine Approach to Launching a Business

Women generally rely on a more intuitive approach to starting their businesses. In order to get started, women need to feel the creative juices flowing and then have the freedom to act on their ideas. Ladies Who Launch is the first online and in-person platform to recognize and cater their program (for female/women entrepreneurs only) to the uniquely feminine approach to launching.

The feminine approach is celebrated through the Ladies Who Launch Incubator program, where you can get through the first stage of launching and find the resources you need to continue growing. As an Incubator leader in my local area, I’ve watched that the participants’ businesses truly expand and grow more quickly when they are connected to other women in their area. Click here (insert link) to learn more about Incubator programs in your area.

The Feminine Approach to Running a Business

Women tend to be collaborators and prefer not to go it alone. This can be a tremendous advantage because they’re always on the lookout for help to get their business off the ground more quickly. Most women don’t have a problem admitting that they’re not sure how to proceed and will ask for direction. Their businesses benefit as a result.

At whatever stage their business is at, entrepreneurial women are always looking for:

Inspiration - Women are inspired when they see and learn from other women who have great ideas, a broader, more creative perspective and who are already achieving the kind of lifestyle they visualize for themselves. Learning from other successful entrepreneurs gives women a sense of who’s doing what in business and if she can do it, I can do it!

Resources - Women want training and coaching from business experts on the latest business strategies. They also want advice on how to create balance and a high-quality personal life.

Community - Women crave a like-minded community of women for a daily dose of wisdom, support and guidance.

Women need a venue to get the inspiration, resources and sense of community they crave. A few years ago I began hosting a monthly “Great Women’s Gathering” in my home. These few joyful hours of unstructured sharing are tremendously valuable for everyone in attendance. It gives us a chance to connect, gather together and learn from one another in a completely supportive environment. Consider starting your own group as a way to reach out to women in your community.

I launched Metromom.com and created The Metromom Entrepreneurs Association for female/women entrepreneurs only. This online community helps metromoms-entrepreneurial moms in home-based businesses-find all the business support and business supporters they need to be successful. I wholeheartedly believe there’s plenty of room for every woman to shine in all that she does-and this quality of abundance is a very important way to celebrate the feminine way of doing business.

By: Kim DeYoung

About the Author:
